Green Building

Warfel Construction Company has been building ‘green’ for decades, before “Sustainable Design” and “LEED” became buzzwords in the industry!

We  make a conscious effort to remain ahead of the curve with regard to Green Building and LEED.  To date, eight of our project managers are LEED Certified. A number we believe to be one of the highest in the state for construction firms.  Additionally, our new office space in East Petersburg was renovated with achieving Silver Level LEED Certification in mind.  Items we have incorporated into our own office include:

  • All new carpet floor tiles throughout building are from recycled materials.
  • New flooring (excluding carpet) is made from rapidly renewable materials.
  • Automatic Lighting (motion detectors) is located throughout building.
  • Paint on walls and ceilings has a high reflectivity reducing lighting requirements.
  • Side windows at office door locations allows light to permeate both ways.
  • Wood Pella Triple Pane Windows with a low E rating are throughout building.
  • New low UV window blinds at various locations throughout building.
  • Foyer extended before lobby reduces hot/cold air exchange from outside.
  • 14 light tubes located on second floor.
  • Photon sensors found on second floor regulate electric lights.
  • Coolant replaced with agent with low ozone and greenhouse gas producing effects.
  • Low VOC paint used throughout building.
  • Waterless Urinals in Upstairs men’s room.
  • Water efficient fixtures replaced in upstair’s bathrooms.
  • Irrigation free landscaping incorporated around building.

We currently have three projects underway with significant efforts toward ‘sustainable design’ and LEED.  St. Andrew’s school in Middletown DE is hoping to achieve PLATINUM Level LEED certification on their $16 million Field House expansion and renovation project. (See rendering below).   Additionally, we are renovating the Dickinson College Trickett Hall in Carlisle and undergoing with preconstruction on a new townhouse community for Kendal at Longwood campus in Kenneth Square.  Both of these projects are looking to reach GOLD Level LEED status certification.
