Sustainable Design In Process
Recent News: Warfel is the first contractor in Pennsylvania to achieve GreenPlus™ Certification from the Institute for Sustainable Development. www.gogreenplus.org
When planning our move to East Petersburg, we looked for an existing building that could be renovated to incorporate sustainable design ideas. We are currently in the process of applying for SILVER Level LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification. To show others how attainable it is to build and renovate with green elements, we have incorporated the following into our own space:
• New carpet floor tiles are from recycled materials
• New flooring (excluding carpet) is made from rapidly renewable materials
• Automatic Lighting (using motion detectors) is located throughout building
• Paint on walls and ceilings has a high reflectivity reducing lighting requirements
• Side windows at office door locations allows light to permeate both ways
• Wood Pella Triple Pane Windows with a low E rating located throughout building
• New low UV window blinds
• Foyer extended before lobby reduces hot/cold air exchange from outside
• Sun tubes allow natural light into center of the building
• Photon sensors regulate electric lights
• Coolant replaced with agent with low ozone and greenhouse gas producing effects
• Low VOC paint used throughout building
• Waterless urinals in mens' rooms
• Water efficient fixtures replaced in bathrooms
• Irrigation free landscaping incorporated around building
For our Current Clients
We currently have three projects underway with significant efforts toward ‘sustainable design’ and LEED; two are in preparation for SILVER LEED certification and one for PLATINUM LEED certification. Sustainable design considerations and recommendations are an integral part to every Warfel project, keeping the overall budget and mission of the owner in mind.
Team of Experts
At Warfel, we are committed to sustainable and environmentally responsible construction. Six of our employees are certified as LEED Accredited Professionals. This is one of the largest number of LEED AP’s, by company, in the state of Pennsylvania for construction firms.

"it is clear to everyone involved that this project would not have been such a success without Warfel’s contributions to both process and production. This was not a simple project, but your team brought experience to each difficult situation and guided us to the right decisions, especially related to green building elements to be installed."
